Biennial in nature, Funergal, International Fair for Funeral Products and Services, returns to the Expourense calendar to celebrate its 12th edition between May 16 and 18, 2024. It will be the only international fair in the funeral sector held in the Iberian Peninsula this year and also the only professional meeting point that, in addition to specialized training and relational capital, offers the purchase and sale of funeral products and services, that is, business.
Funergal 2024 has the participation of 55 exhibitors from a total of 8 countries (China, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland and Portugal). In addition to receiving professional visitors from these 8 countries that also have representation in the exhibition area, to this figure we must add that of the professionals who have already confirmed their presence at the fair and who will come to Ourense from countries such as Germany, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, India, Lithuania, Nigeria, Peru, United Kingdom or Senegal. In total, around twenty countries are represented in this edition.
Among the exhibitors at Funergal 2024, leading companies and associations of professionals in the sector stand out, presenting the latest developments and trends in funeral products and services. From Funergal they highlight the high degree of loyalty on the part of the regular exhibitors to whom they have added new ones.
The fundamental objective of Funergal is the promotion of business, competitiveness and updating in this field, at the same time that it presents a wide range of new products, adapted to the needs of different professional funeral visitors (both representatives of large companies and other familiar character), which will be approached, fundamentally, from different points of the Iberian Peninsula.

The list of exhibitors at Funergal 2024 covers the entire chain of necessary funeral products and services, including important coffin manufacturers on the Peninsula; manufacturers of crematorium ovens, urns, tombstones, floral arrangements, jewelry, accessories and complements to set up a funeral; in comprehensive management of funeral services; chemical and embalming equipment and material; specialized training in thanatopraxy; insurance aimed at funeral companies; consultancy; editorials; specialized software; the main funeral vehicle bodybuilders in both Spain and Portugal; national associations that represent different professional branches (funeral companies, funeral professionals, cemetery managers,…); furniture and accessories for funeral homes and cemeteries; funeral fairs; specialized media in the sector, etc.
This 12th edition is sponsored by the Provincial Council of Ourense and also with the sponsorship of the large business groups providing funeral services in the country such as Interfunerarias, Grupo Albia, the collaboration of Enalta. It also has the participation as an exhibitor of the Mémora Group, among other important companies in the sector. Other notable ones such as Parcesa or PFB Serveis Funeraris support the edition through different promotional actions.

3rd International Congress of Funeral Directors
With regard to specialized training, the 3rd International Congress of Funeral Directors will be held in parallel and complementary to Funergal. It has the participation of 14 experts from Spain and El Salvador who will address the current concerns of the sector such as technological innovation, sustainability and the defense of the ethics of the funeral professional. The Mortuary Health Decree of Galicia will also be discussed; of the new Vocational Training Law, a challenge for funeral companies; Crisis Communication in the funeral sector: the power of social networks in Tributes in Life; different thanatological processes or the role of Cemeteries in their environmental commitment and in the face of climate change.

Awards
Among the activities planned for this edition, the traditional presentation of the “International Funergal Awards” stands out, which includes these categories: Best Stand Award; Best Promotional Action; Most Innovative Product/Service and Internationalization. In addition, Funergal will host the delivery of the National Award for “Best Funeral Director” organized by La Guía Funeraria. The Awards section also includes the “Honoris Causa of the Funeral Sector” Awards, which are presented in collaboration with the Mexican company Gane Ventas Funerarias, creator of the award.
Activity program
Related to the training will also be the presentation of the first guide on Thanatopraxia “The art of embalming” by Jaume Prats, tanatopractor at PFB Serveis Funeraris. Additionally, some exhibiting companies will take the opportunity to present their innovative products and services.
Funergal 2024 will also have two permanent photography exhibitions. The first of these will be “Arrolos ao ar” about perinatal grief. It is an exhibition promoted by the Lugo City Council, the Lugo Nursing College, the Galicia Nursing Academy and the Arrolos Perinatal Mourning Group (Lugo) that was exhibited in the San Froilán Cemetery and that these days can be seen in Ourense.
The second of the exhibitions will be “Sustainability in Cemeteries” organized by the AFCM-Cementerios Vivos and shows some of the most outstanding activities in environmental and sustainable matters that are being carried out in the facilities of the associated Spanish cemeteries.
Funergal is also a great meeting point for the funeral family and that is why it has organized a social program that includes a visit to a winery from the Ribeiro Designation of Origin and a gala dinner, which has the support of Interfunerarias, so that they can enjoy the excellent food and wine of the province of Ourense.
Within this program there will be no shortage of the traditional “pulpo á feira” offered by the Provincial Association of Ourense APEFO, which will once again act as hosts and which is always one of the most endearing moments of conviviality of this event and which this year will serve as the finishing touch. final to the 12th edition.
It is also the second edition of Funergal with High Speed. Ourense is now 2 hours and 15 minutes from Madrid by high speed, a city connected with direct flights to 66 countries. This will facilitate the participation of exhibitors and, above all, national and international visitors. Those who decide to go by train will be able to benefit from a 10% discount thanks to the agreement that Expourense maintains with RENFE.
